IT Department
As the world is moving rapidly and the technological frontier is being pushed daily by new breakthroughs, the IT Department of the school exists to help teachers and students harness the technology in effective and efficient ways. They can come in the forms of upgrading the hardware and software in the school’s computer laboratories or organising up-to-date training sessions for teachers to enable them to use computers proficiently. The department’s role is also to assist the teachers in solving technical problems (with the help of the Technical Assistant) and to design and set up a framework to set up a robust system in the school.
The department also organizes IT related events and/or competitions to encourage a widespread use of technology. Teachers are also strongly encouraged to make use of existing hardware and software to conduct meaningful and engaging lessons for the pupils. Courses are also organized for the pupils to share with them the dangers and pitfalls of using the internet or to use some of the applications that are useful and hopefully enrich their life in Secondary School.

Normal Tecnical (NT) Department
A host of elective modules like ceramics, hairdressing, photography, make-up and video-editing are being offered for the Normal Technical pupils in our school. Here in Orchid Park Secondary School, learning comes alive and more hands-on sessions come into actions and yet the core curriculum is still not neglected. The team which is putting this together has a real concern for these pupils. They want to engage them meaningfully in school and to get them to enjoy coming to school. Most importantly, to help them to discover their talent or a skill that they are good at.
Teachers are either passionate about skills that they have already possessed or collaborate with practitioners of the various trades and industries to share with the NT pupils. Not only have they learnt about what’s happening in the societies, they also get to present what they’ve learnt in various ways. For example, running a ‘restaurant’ for the special guests in school, after they finished the culinary skills elective module, or helping the performers to put on the make-up during Speech Day. There are many other areas of service which the pupils can put to use with what they have learnt. Hence, the department is always on a lookout to find courses that would be able to provide them with relevant skills and to pique their interest in life-long learning through such courses.
Definitely, teach less learn more comes very much alive for the Normal Technical pupils through the concerted effort of the people from this department.
