Character Development in OPSS

 

In Orchid Park Secondary, Character Development is delivered via a whole school approach. It is inherent in all aspects of school life (Instructional programmes, RICH, lifeskills and Assembly programmes, CCAs, Experiential Learning via trips, Service Learning/Community Involvement Programmes. It seeks to develop and promote the pupils' total well-being with the help of parents and external agencies. For example, MCYS, Student Ca re Services. FSC, SINDA, Heartware Network etc

In conducting the Character Development programme, the underlying principles are those enshrined in the school's Mission and Creed which seek to imbue pupils with the following values:

 

  • Showing Respect & Care for fellow beings
  • Accepting full responsibility (or their actions and behaviours Being cultured young men and women with integrity
  • Being resourceful individuals with a positive outlook
  • Making the best use of personal talents
  • Being innovative and taking pride in producing quality work
  • Working hard and persevering on to realize their hopes and aspirations for the future



Character Development in Orchid Park is delivered explicitly through the following modes:

 

  • 2 period [40mins] weekly - RICH programme.
    [RICH focus on: Respectful, Responsible, Resilence, Integrity, Caring, Harmony)
    [For Sec. 4 & 5, RICH is infused in English Lessons]
  • 1 period [40mins] - Life skills programme
  • 1 period [40mins] - Form Teacher Time (Alternate with Assembly).


 
Lifeskills programme alms to equip pupils with SEL (Social Emotional) competencies via structured experiences like role-ptay, reflections, group discussions etc.:

 

  • Self Awareness
  • Self Management (including Sexuality Education)
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship management
  • Responsible Decision making (including Career Education)
