Key Focus
The Mathematics department caters to the different learning abilities of our pupils by tailoring our programmes according to their needs. The teachers collaborate, share teaching ideas and resources with one another and explore new teaching strategies, to better engage the pupils in their learning. Alternative assessment modes such as journal writing and reasoning tasks are also used to enhance pupils’ learning experience. Our Lower Secondary pupils use e-learning portal to improve their understanding and be more self-directed in their learning.
To make the learning of Mathematics enjoyable and help pupils develop an appreciation for Mathematics, we have also organized a variety of enrichment programmes, such as learning trails and financial literacy courses. Higher ability students are challenged through participation in International Mathematics competition organised by University of New South Wales and the Mathematics Olympiad organized by Singapore Mathematical Society. The more capable Normal (Academic) pupils are given the opportunity to study Express syllabus Mathematics at Secondary 3 and 4. Brighter Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) pupils can also take part in All Singapore Secondary Mathematic Competition For Normal Course Students.
We have also customized structured remediation programmes for different streams, levels and classes to help pupils to perform better in tests/exams. The graduating classes are given rigorous practice papers to prepare them for the National examinations. |
